Dickens doodle for Google – how much would you pay?

Did you like today’s Google doodle? It‘s a loving pictorial celebration of Mr Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday. You’ll have hours of fun guessing ‘who’s who’ from his many novels. Click on it and you’ll be able to download a FREE book too. Now that’s very kind, isn’t it? Well, it might actually be to encourage you to use Google Books. In fact, as far as I know, this is the first time that Google has used their doodle in this way; to flog something. It begs the question… how long will it be before we’ll all be able to rent the space too? How much will it cost? What will the creative strictures be on such a space? Should it be restricted to non-profit making causes? Will it be a step too far for Google’s perceived independent aura? How have they resisted for so long?
